Arrival/Absence
Class will begin promptly at 9:00 am. Upon arrival, please have your Eaglet to put to away their personal belongings, binders, and wash their hands, Toys are not permitted at school unless we are having "Show & Tell". If your child is late they must have an excuse or they will be marked tardy. If your child has to be absent from school please send a note when they return. Please see me for makeup work if you are going to be out of school for over a week. Attendance is extremely important! Please make sure your child is at school daily and ready to learn. Excessive absences can interrupt your child's learning process and causes them to miss valuable information taught daily in the classroom.
Birthdays/Book Bags/Breakfast
Birthdays are to be Celebrated!! Feel free to send a special treat to share with the class. Treats must be store bought. All birthdays treats will be eaten during lunch time (11:00 am). If your child is having a birthday party and you are inviting ALL of the children in the class, you may send the invitations in with your child and we will distribute them. If you are not inviting everyone, please mail the invitations instead of sending them to school. Book bags are required for each student and will go home on Friday so that covers can be washed and returned on Monday. Breakfast will be served from 8:00-8:30 am. We WILL NOT hold breakfast if you are late no outside food is allowed.
Conference/Communication/Conduct
Conferences can be scheduled by calling the preschool office or by sending me a note Conferences are not allowed during instructional time. I will request conferences during progress report periods and/or if I see an immediate concern with your Eaglet. Communication will be face to face, via " Week at a Glance", Zoom, Class Dojo or phone calls. Parents can communicate with me using the "notes" section in your Eaglet's binder, a scheduled parent teacher conference, or by calling the preschool's direct line. Please do not call during instructional time. There is a conduct system in class. Conduct will be indicated daily in the child's agenda book. The conduct rubric is as follows...
E=Excellent
S=Satisfactory
N=Needs Improvement
Please look over the conduct grade as well as any notes written. Please sign and return daily. Obedience is a requirement.
Daily/Progress Devotion
Please check your child's agenda book daily to get information on your his/her progress. Each day your child will strive for an "E" in EXCELLENCE! This means that they have followed the rules. If your child needs to work on a skill, a note will be written from me in the notes area. Together we can improve this skill.
Grading
The Eaglets will be given grades in the following areas that are covered in the curriculum.....art, numbers and skills, poem memorization, large and fine motor skills, writing, letters and sounds. They will be given numeric grades that will be averaged. The averages will decide if the child gets and (E) for mastery, (S) for partial mastery, and an (N) for non-mastery on both the progress reports and report cards. Please always encourage your child to do his or her best so that their grades will reflect their hard work. Grade papers will be sent home very Tuesday in your child's binder. Please sign and return the top sheet. The graded papers can be kept at home to review that week's assignment.
Homework
Your child can expect homework on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Look for the assignments on the "Week at a Glance" or in the agenda book. Please take the time to check your child's homework assignments each day and don't forget to return them to school the next day. Late homework will result in a low grade.
Independence
In the beginning of the school year your child will probably need some assistance completing the assignments and preparing for school activities. As the year, progresses, you will find that they may grow more independent. Please allow the Eaglet to do his or her homework assignments or projects. Facilitate with work but do not the work for them. Please encourage thus and let them know how proud you are of them.
Jobs
We will have a chore chart in the classroom and each student will get a job every week. Jobs will be alternated. This will help the Eaglet to be responsible as well as give them a sense of classroom ownership. This is not my classroom, it is OUR classroom!
Pre-K
Pre-K is a very exciting time for parents and students! Parents who are interested in their child's schooling learn with them and provide extra learning opportunities beyond school and they are most successful. Please ensure that your child is well rested, well fed and emotionally ready for school each day. Make sure supplies are ready and available each night/morning and try to make sure "getting ready" in the morning is as pleasant as possible.
Learning Centers
Did you know that children learn through play? To continue the learning process throughout the day, your child will have the opportunity to explore different centers in our classroom such as blocks, dramatic play, puzzles and manipulatives, reading, science, art and more!! These centers will help your child develop lifelong skills through discovery.
Nap Time
Nat time is from 12 pm to 2 pm. Each Eaglet will need a 2 inch resting mat along with 2 large towels or blankets. Please do not send bed sheets, sleeping bags or pillows. All mats must be in good condition throughout the school year. Please replace as soon as possible if damaged.
Outdoor Play
If weather permits, we will play outdoors each day to develop social and large motor skills and release some "kid" energy. Please make sure that your child has on the appropriate clothing/shoes for outside activities.
Parent Involvement
We invite and encourage you to be a part of our classroom! Come and see what we are learning and what new things we are excited about learning.
Rules and Obedience
Rules and consequences need to be in consistent at school and at home. Please remind your child to listen and follow directions and classroom rules daily. Your child's obedience is required so that all students will have the opportunity to learn.
Curriculum
The Abeka Curriculum units for Pre-K are broken down by weeks. Each week your Eaglet will explore a new letter and number as well as activities in handwriting, science, and social studies associated with that letter and number. The end of each month has review week in which the curriculum uses fun themes to recap what the Eaglet has learned.
